Reflections

 An important property of water is its ability to reflect light, like a mirror of the sky or other feature that surrounds it. The mirror itself is a horizontal surface and is dependent on what angle you are viewing the body of water. Generally reflections are influenced by the clarity of the water and you want compare the value and intensity to the actual object itself: is it duller, is it less focused? Choppy water, moving water is more of a challenge but the more you observe is, the more you see patterns. You can use brush strokes to mimic the flow of water saving the highlights for last.
